The Porter families covered in this blog are focussed in the Parishes of Standish, Croston, Leyland in Lancashire and Slaidburn, Whitewell (Whalley) in the West Riding of Yorkshire, and environs. The families researched covered the period 1565 to 1800. More parishes will be added to the blog with information and names will be included in Porter Name Database (see link in right hand column) with sources.

Thank you to Marsha Donaldson for sharing these on her Ancestry tree. I have taken the liberty of downloading the photos to share on our page. These photos were part of the Kenneth Porter collection. Kenneth was a very early researcher of the Porter family. It is amazing that these survive. These are the children of Thomas Porter (1759-1828) and Alice Langton Porter (1761-1836) Only a photo of their eldest daughter, Ann is missing. To give you an ideas which branch belongs to you: I, and the majority of members on this page, descend from Thomas Porter (my 3X g-grandfather). Marsha Donaldson descends from John Porter, and Tim Nicholls descends from James Porter.

I corresponded witgh Kenneth for many years and only recently learnt of his death in 2019 when I emailed his daughters. They sent me scans of the Porter siblings and a few pages from his Porter family history. Do you have a copy of the history he compiled?
