The Porter families covered in this blog are focussed in the Parishes of Standish, Croston, Leyland in Lancashire and Slaidburn, Whitewell (Whalley) in the West Riding of Yorkshire, and environs. The families researched covered the period 1565 to 1800. More parishes will be added to the blog with information and names will be included in Porter Name Database (see link in right hand column) with sources.

 Linda Dunsmore-Porter

My Mom and Dad were married November 25, 1939. Their wedding photo. They were just going to have a quiet little wedding. But my Dad's sister Flo, and sister-in-law Etta decided otherwise. Their wedding was hosted at Neil (Dad's brother) and Etta's home in Doonside, Saskatchewan and a feast was prepared for the happy couple and attendees. The strength of my grandfather's influence, Thomas Porter (the Boss), came out in the little write-up, when, whoever wrote it, had him signing the register, rather than Dad.

With the exception of the Aunt Norma Dunsmore (second left) the rest are my Dad's siblings and spouses, cousins, nieces and nephews. It must have been a lovely day considering there are few coats, etc.
