The Porter families covered in this blog are focussed in the Parishes of Standish, Croston, Leyland in Lancashire and Slaidburn, Whitewell (Whalley) in the West Riding of Yorkshire, and environs. The families researched covered the period 1565 to 1800. More parishes will be added to the blog with information and names will be included in Porter Name Database (see link in right hand column) with sources.

Photo is of Frank and Hannah (Booth) Porter and Alice (Porter) and John Armstrong. These siblings of the Canadian Porters remained in Blackburn, England. Their brother James (Jim) Porter emigrated to Canada in 1893, via Ellis Island, New York. In 1895, my grandparents left for Canada to join Jim. In 1897 their mother, Nancy (Sellers) Porter gathered the younger children, Maggie, Lizzie and Fred, and brought them to Canada. Frank and Alice opting to remain in England. I have written a fictional story based on what I knew about their arrival. If you are interested in the story, check out Porter Family: a Journey of Generations, Volume 1, page 313.
